Esthetic Botox / Surgiderm

maquillage du pourtour des lèvres

New cosmetic products allow patient to avoid surgery in many cases by using Botox / Vistabel or Surgiderm injections. Those are allowed from 18 to 65 years; but must not be performed during pregnancy or  breast-feeding period, or with patients treated for neuro-muscular disease. Dark rings may also be treated that way.

What’s Botox made of ?

Botox / Vistabel is made from purified Botulinum Toxin Type – A, a neurotoxin produced by the bacteria Clostridium Botulinum. Clostridium Botulinum and its spores are widely distributed in nature. They occur in both cultivated and forest soils, bottom sediments of streams, lakes, and coastal waters, and in the intestinal tracts of fish and mammals, and in the gills and viscera of crabs and other shellfish.
Surgiderm is composed of non animal stabilized hyaluronic acid (NaHA). Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is normally produced by the body and is what gives skin its volume and fullness.

Where can Botox be used

Botox / Vistabel Surgiderm

  1. Forehead frowns (Worry Lines)
  2. Around the brows – Between the eyebrows (Glabellar Lines)
  3. Fine lines such as laughter (Smile Lines)
  4. Around the eyes (Periorbital Lines)
  5. Above the top lip
  6. Deep lines (Worry and Nasolabial)
  7. Medium to deep lines and wrinkles.
  8. Treatment of medium and deep skin depressions
  9. Enhancement of volume: Enhancing the border of the lips.
  10. Peri-oral Lines and Peri-oral wrinkles (smoker lines)
  11. Redefining the contour of the lips and increasing the volume of the lips.

Vistabel is the brand that has been licensed to be used on the Glabellar lines for cosmetic use.
Botox is also used to treat Hyperhydrosis (Excessive Sweating). Botulinum toxin is a purified protein that blocks this signal from brain to the nerve endings. This means that when you laugh or frown, the overlying skin becomes smoother and unwrinkled while the untreated facial muscles work normally, and facial expressions are not affected.

How much costs Botox?

You are looking at Botox costing around 300 Euros to 600 Euros per area treated but this can vary depending on the clinic in question as larger cosmetic surgery providers may cost more but offer a more comprehensive treatment and aftercare package than smaller independent clinics.

The Results with Botox

The area treated should appear smoother and with less wrinkles. Results are often visible after a week, although it may take between 2- 3 weeks after the treatment for the full effects to be seen. The effects of Botox injections generally last for about three to four months. On average, the effects of Surgiderm last for between 6 to 9 months. This depends upon the degree of correction required, your age and lifestyle as well as the correct placement of the product by a practitioner.

Risks & Complications with Botox

tech_esthet_6Very occasionally, patients who receive Botox injections in the forehead experience a drooping of the eyelids or eyebrows, although this is temporary and will resolve itself when the effects of Botox wear off. In general the lines and wrinkles are softened; the lips can be plumped up and given more definition. The degree of correction is dependent on the patient’s wishes and the amount of product used. Results are also dependent on a patient’s skin type and facial structure, their life style and their own perception. Risks can include a small risk of allergic reaction to the filler or bruising of the treated area. Bleeding, tenderness and small amounts of pain may also occur. People with a history of cold sores may experience a recurrence after treatment, although this can be minimized by the use of antiviral medicines.
